Theft Crimes

Theft by Shoplifting occurs when you take merchandise from a retail establishment through various means. This means include concealment, altering or swapping price tags, or transfer from one container to another. Theft by Shoplifting is a misdemeanor, but unless this is taken care of this charge can hurt your chances for a job or even college.

Theft by Taking occurs by taking or appropriating the property of another with the intention of depriving the owner of the property.

Theft by Receiving occurs by receiving stolen property which you knew or should have known was stolen.

Theft by Conversion occurs when the holder of the property obtained the property lawfully (e.g. a lease) and then converted to his own use.

Theft by Deception occurs when the property of another is obtained through deceit.

Theft of Services occurs when services that require payment for their use are intentionally obtained without payment.

Theft by Extortion occurs when the property of another is obtained via threats (coercion).

Theft by Bringing Stolen Property Into the State occurs when the property that the holder knew or should have known was stolen is brought into the state.

Theft of Lost or Mislaid Property occurs when the property that the holder knew or should have know was lost or mislaid where the holder did not make a reasonable attempt to locate the real owner.

Entering Auto occurs when you enter a motor vehicle with the intent to commit a theft or felony. Punishment is limited to 1-5 years in prison.
